For centuries some of the most influential people of the eras they lived in have turned to the art of war to assist them in the art of persuasion.
The art of war and the art of persuasion may be different but in theory both of these arts give people victory over conflict. These arts teach us how to get what we want. The art of persuasion utilizes mental force to achieve victory, and the art of war uses physical force to achieve victory.
Of course, at times these two arts overlap. For instance the art of war often diverts to psychological tactics to put fear in the enemy in order to gain an advantage on the battlefield. Likewise, the art of persuasion will use physical force (body language and other forms of non verbal suggestions) to plant suggestions in people’s minds to gain an advantage in the persuasion arena.
But public speakers, politicians, and world leaders have time and time again directed their full attention to the principles of warfare with the hopes of being able to adapt these principles so that these principles could be applied to their own daily struggles and conflicts. A common example of this is how political science has a huge emphasis on the writings of Niccolo Machiavelli.
Historians believe that Machiavelli was the first political theorist to modify the principles of warfare for politics, leadership, and even personal power. If anyone wants a degree in political science, they have no choice but to learn the powerful literature of Machiavelli. So, since politicians are benefiting from the philosophy of war, maybe the common citizen or the struggling businessman can be trained to use the principles and theory of war to their benefit as well?
After all, we are all fighting for something. We may be fighting for better jobs, for a better relationship with someone we love, or for a higher status that will make it much easier for us to get the things we want. Everyone who desires to become great or who wants to become great must learn how to overcome conflicts and struggles.
And what better way to overcome conflict than to study the art of war?
