The reason people invite guests to their wedding is obvious. For them to witness the union of their friends or relatives in marriage and to share their joy. Wedding gifts are optional but most guests will at least bring something small as a token of their best wishes.
Some believe that given the amount of money spent by the couple on providing food and entertainment for their guests, that the guests should repay them with gifts of great expense or even cash, although traditionalists would beg to differ.
Quite a common way of organising the gift giving at a wedding is for the couple to register for gifts from a particular shop or chain of shops. When the bride and groom register for gifts they will usually make up a list of gift ideas that they would like to receive from the guests and the list will usually be comprised of general household necessities such as china and silverware.
This method is often preferred by wedding guests because it allows them to be comfortable in the knowledge that the couple defiantly want what they’ve bought them and it will be valuable in their life together.
There are disadvantages to the registry gift approach, one of which is that the gift buying can end up being a wealth based competition as to who will buy the more expensive gifts on the list. Also, traditionalists believe that the gift registry idea contradicts what a wedding is all about, i.e. being around close friends and family as if someone doesn’t know the couple well enough to know what to buy them as a wedding present, then why are they at the wedding.
So a good direction to take for buying wedding gifts is to go with something personalised. Personalised gifts can really trigger the right emotions that people want to see at a wedding. An example of a personalised gift that you could get the couple would be a box to keep all of their emotional, wedding-related keepsakes in. This box could perhaps have a picture of the bride and groom on the top and throughout the course of the day it could be filled with momentous keepsakes from the days events. That would surely be something that a bride and groom would cherish for the rest of their lives.
Gifts that have been specifically created for the people you will be giving them to are therefore probably the most valuable and emotive gifts that you can give someone on their wedding day, and the chances are that these gift will stand out from the rest and stay in the couples memories for a long time.
