Wedding planning does not have to be overwhelming. You arent the first to plan and you wont be the last. There are several things that are common to all weddings. By sticking to our wedding planning checklist in a nutshell, even planning a cheap wedding can be a memorable and stress-free occasion.
After you have chosen the date, pick a theme, a setting or a type of wedding that you want. As with most things, you will find that having something to plan around makes it much easier in the long run to figure out things like food, entertainment, dresses, flowers invitations and the kind of ceremony that you are interested in.
There are lots of great themes out there, ranging from ballerina weddings to snow princess weddings to winter themes to beach themes. Do you like the idea of getting married in a winery or in the ruins of a castle? What about a waterfall, a gazebo or a beach front?
After the theme and the setting have been decided upon, you will find that it is all going to start falling into place, whether you are thinking about a formal wedding or casual one. Leave the invitations off until one of the last thins you do, as it will tell everyone what the agenda and the venue of the wedding is going to be.
Considering the Ceremony
This is where you are going to be considering what accessories, flowers, dresses, decorations, and photography you want. Consider dresses for the female wedding party that will match the venue and theme, and find out what flowers and decorations you are interested in. Consult with the photographer and make sure that you are planning within your budget, no matter how large or small it is.
Matching is key; for instance, when you are having a beach wedding, consider making the bridesmaid dresses pretty sundresses worn with sandals. Decorate with tropical flowers and leis. Consider photography that involves you and your beloved on the beach, running in the sand and the family having fun together, whether your building sandcastles or feeding gulls.
What About the Reception?
For a lot of people, the reception planning is the most fun. This is the food and entertainment, and you can match the decoration to your theme and venue. Consider whether you want to encourage gifts or discourage them. Because many weddings no longer involve the creation of a new household from scratch, you may choose to let your guests off of the hook when it comes to this one.
You can always put down No gifts please on the invitations. Instead of gifts, you will often end up getting cards, some of which will almost certainly have cash inside. This is much easier than transporting or even returning gifts that you don’t want or need, and gifts o cash can help you when you are working on defraying the cost of a wedding.
Consider whether you want to serve a meal or whether you want to serve appetizers at your wedding. If you reception happens at a typical mealtie, you will find that it is expected that you will feed your guests. This is often the most complex step involved as you consider people who are coming to your wedding who have dietary needs and who can eat what.
Now just put it all down on paper, and start sending out your invitations. It’s really about that easy, so get started!
