Wedding Expenses – Who Pays For What

By George Moulakis | Mar 21, 2010

I think getting prepared for your wedding is one of the most anticipated events in a couple’s life. This is when everything is being settled to make sure that the big event is a successful one. We want everyone to remember this special day because everything turned out perfectly.

However, no matter how much we prepare for this day, there seems to be always something wrong bound to happen. For instance, the band who is supposed to play music on your wedding reception didn’t come because they were only paid to play on your wedding ceremony and that is it. Nobody arranged for how long the reception place shall be used and now the management is requesting for all people to vacate the place in an hour because there will be another reception to take place in the next hour.

All these unwanted scenes and so much more could happen when the responsibilities are not delegated evenly to both the bride’s and the groom’s party. They may be avoided in a lot of ways. Both the bride’s and also the groom’s side should communicate really well to avoid any assumptions that the other side paid for this and that so we do not have to pay for this and that. Having this kind of attitude spells out disaster in a wedding preparation.

Proper delegation should be recognized in preparation of a wedding. Normally, there is a list of the traditional wedding cost designation for the bride and the groom’s family. This will actually help both parties to decide on which costs to pay for and if they think that this is not applicable to them, then they would need to split up designations to make sure that everything’s fare and square. You don’t want your in-laws fighting over the costs of your wedding even before they become legally in-laws, do you? Of course not. So here are some of the traditional wedding cost designations that could help organize your wedding expenses.

The bride’s family should take care of all the cost of the wedding ceremony such as the location of the wedding ceremony, the rentals for the chairs, lights, music along with the decorations which will adorn the entire wedding place. You can have flowers for the decorations which is generally the case for weddings. They would certainly also be the ones responsible for the whole wedding reception cost, which include the place of the reception, the food and type of beverages to be served, music or live entertainment, the reception decorations and obviously, the most awaited wedding cake. The bride’s family will also provide the gift for the groom. They happen to be also in charge of the photographers and also the photo coverage of the wedding as well as the reception. And finally, the wedding gown that the bride shall be wearing.

The groom’s household wedding assignments include the rings to be worn by the new couple, the marriage license, the bride’s flower bouquet and the flower corsages, the rehearsal dinner and of course, who could forget the honeymoon where the new couple will enjoy their brand new married life together. There isn’t much to add unless of course you want a really extravagant and fabulous wedding. Then most likely you could add more to the list given that everything will be taken care of to avoid any inconveniences on your big day.
