Things To Look Out For While Shopping For Diamond Earrings

By Rich Keys | Jul 19, 2009

Do you have a dear lady companion with a birthday approaching? Are you searching for a very special gift, but afraid that a diamond ring carries a certain message?

If you want to get her a special gift but without an implied message then some fabulous diamond earrings be just the thing. Romance is not the only meaning of the diamond. Their ability to stand the test of time makes them the birthstone for the month of April. While carrying elegance and refinery, they are still perfect in everyday use. If you are in search of a gift that will last a lifetime, a good choice is the diamond!

The question that remains is what piece of diamond jewellery to get – necklace, ring, earrings? What cut of diamond is the best to choose? When thinking about diamonds, a ring generally springs to mind first. However, if you are giving the gift to anyone but your fiance, a ring will likely confuse a girl.

Give her a necklace only if she is inclined to wear them–otherwise it may sit unused. Diamond earrings are the single item of jewellery that girls can put on any time without appearing either too formal or casual. They also usually cost less.

The most difficult aspect of purchasing diamond earrings is often choosing the right cut: i.e. With the cut, there are many to select from, round, emerald, princess or oval? The fashions and models of cut is a girl’s domain. The better you know her, the easier it will be to make the shape correspond with her personality.

Round-cut diamonds are cut in the shape of a cone and known for their brilliancy. This cut is the most popular cut for a diamond. If you have seen an engagement ring recently, chances are the main diamond was a round-cut.

Princess-cut diamonds are wrought like an upturned pyramid – a quadrangle top with four beveled limits. This cut is the second most in demand.

One cut of diamond, the emerald-cut, has a stepped, rectangular shape that was originally designed to keep emeralds from breaking as they were cut. It is not a common cut, but the shape is familiar and suits rounder faces best.

Oval-cut diamonds are very similar in shape to round-cut diamonds, differing only in the shape of the base of the cone.

There are other cuts available, like the pear and the heart, but sticking to the classic shapes is always a good idea when buying jewellery without the lady by your side. The size of the diamond, measured in carats, should be smaller as the ear can only hold so much weight.

One more thing, ask the jeweller from which you are buying to suggest a set of diamond earrings. It is important to trust your own opinion as well as theirs, they are knowledgeable in what they are doing.
