In today’s society there is an increasing number of divorces each year, and the number of single parent homes keep growing. This has started to raise the question about whether or not marriage will be obsolete over the next few years.
Many couples are beginning to wonder whether marriage is worth it, and some wonder why this is. Honestly, this is because marriage is work and people are inherently lazy. Marriage is not what we see on TV, marriage without marriage problems, something that is joyous all the time and is just a love and sex fest. This is not reality and perhaps this is why so many people find themselves dissatisfied with their marriage and want out. After all, they are not getting what they bargained for, so they feel as if they have gotten the short end of the stick.
The beginning of the marriage is always so happy for couples, they are experiencing an overwhelming sensation of love, they enjoy taking care of one another and most are even have a nightly ritual of sex. Then these emotions begin to fade a little and reality starts to set in. Some begin to have the doubts and fears as to why they no longer have this extreme passion that was there when they first got married. How is one to handle this situation? Well if you look at the television and the movies, when things start to become unsatisfying in the marriage they either leave their spouse or have an affair, therefore this is what most married people tend to do when they begin to feel unhappy.
Unfortunately the message we have been receiving from video media leads us to believe that we deserve more and that a fairy tale life is possible. The true fairy tale of marriage is making it work during the good and bad times. If you work together as a team and get through all the troubles, joys and sorrows together, that is the fairy tale that you deserve. That is your knight in shining armor holding your hand, no matter what the situation and still loving, even after your 100th argument.
As hot passions turn to companionship and love grows deeper, it is not superficial, but the reality of having someone to share experiences both good and bad with. The joy comes in knowing that you are married for life and working at it every day is the challenge that you accept with open arms. It is not marriage that is failing people it is people who are failing to realize that marriage is a serious commitment and one that should not be taken lightly.
