Intuition is an ability that has often been misunderstood. This ability to get a feel for a situation or person has been used throughout time to assess the world around us, but what we feel and what we are told are sometimes very different. Who do we trust?
Most of our perceptions are put together by a collection of evidence that is supported by our senses: what we physically see, and can touch. Intuition goes beyond the senses and the facts and delves into a world that is connected more to feel than touch. Through intuition we can get that gut level feeling that lets us know when something is not true, or someone cannot be trusted.
When we tie our intuitive abilities to the chakra system, like we would associate hearing to the ears, our intuition is found in the belly. This is where our emotions are based, and both emotions and intuition are communication tools that help us assess and respond to a situation.
In the Latin language we have the word intueri, the root of the word intuition. This word can be translated to mean look within, which is a great definition of intuitive abilities.
How can we use our intuitive abilities in our day-to-day lives? Intuition by nature and name are internal communications, and you can use your intuition to support your observations, and as a guide to fill in the blanks. Give yourself credit for what you are noticing as well as those gut level reactions.
There are many psychics that rely on their intuition as a strong part of their services. Like any other area of life there are those who have that intuitive knack to begin with, while others practice to develop that skill.
Intuition is different than clairvoyance. The word clairvoyance is derived from the French word words clair, meaning clear, and voyance, or vision. This ability is associated with the brow chakra, and while it is located in the general vicinity of the mind it is actually stepping out of the workings of the mind.
No matter how we look at it our intuitive abilities are a part of our everyday lives. There are some who use intuition openly as a part of their consulting business. Most of us use intuitive feeling without thinking of it, or associating it with the word intuition. Acknowledgement of any ability is usually based on feedback from others, and most do not encourage an ability that can cut so closely down to the truth.
