How To Plan A Red Wedding While Avoiding Mistakes

By Cleo Clayton | Sep 23, 2009

If you have gone to a wedding in the recent past, you may have noticed the new trend of bride’s planning a red wedding. Red wedding dresses have long been common tradition in China, but around the world these beautiful gowns are now popping up more and more. If you are considering a red wedding of your own, first think through the common mistakes that brides make with this color selection.

Planning a red wedding may seem to be just like planning any other wedding theme, but it does have a couple special considerations that must be taken into account. Mainly, the biggest mistakes arise when brides and planners do not realize that red can be an extremely bold color and can easily be overdone.

Overdoing it is one of the biggest tragedies a bride can face, so listen up if you are planning to walk down the aisle draped in luxurious red this year!

For starters, every bride’s gown should match her personality. Following that rule, think of the outgoing personality that you would need to adequately carry a solid, bright red wedding dress down the aisle. One of the biggest mistakes brides often make is to go with too much red when everyone watching them knows they are too reserved and shy for the color.

Yet, this doesn’t mean your dreams of a red wedding have to be crushed. You can always go with an ivory or white dress with luxurious red detailing. That may actually look much nicer on some figures than a solid red dress.

You want to be a knockout that no one can take their eyes off on your wedding day, and that requires you pick the right dress!

Secondly, you want to make sure that the quality of your red gown is very high. While a white or ivory dress can be purchased with lower priced materials and look simply stunning, this isn’t always true with red. The wrong materials or shade of color can give it a very unflattering look.

You don’t want to fall into the trap of a red dress that looks cheap, even it was! This means selecting higher quality materials and going with a deeper colored rosy red rather than something that looks like it came right out of the crayon box.

The last mistake is to put too much solid red in the wedding decor and attire. While red is stunning, it requires some accent colors to really pull it off well. If literally everything in site is red, red, and more red, you will find your guests complaining it has gone a bit overboard.

One option is to go with a solid red dress and contrast with your groom in a solid white tuxedo. You may even want to dress your bridesmaids in white or ivory with red detailing, instead of solid red like your dress.

Some of the best accent shades are white, ivory, chocolate, and some shades of pink.

If you can avoid these common mistakes that come with planning a red wedding, you are off and running to a beautiful wedding day. Just make sure you don’t fall into any of the other common mistakes which have nothing to do with the color of your dress!
