Here Are Some Things To Remember About Free Wedding Speech Samples

By Amy Bartlett | Sep 22, 2009

Are you one of those unfortunates who sweat and stammer and become undone when asked to stand up in front of a crowd and say something? What about at a wedding, when your good friend is getting married and you have been invited to “say a few words” at the reception? Same reaction? Well, here’s good news—-first, it’s not the end of the world; and second, there are lots of free wedding speech samples out there for the taking—–all you have to do is look.

First of all, get this speech making business in perspective. You are not addressing the United Nations, nor are you in court fighting for your life; you are just standing up giving a heartfelt speech to a newly married couple for whom you wish all the best. What’s so hard about that? Who cares if every eye in the room is on you—-you have clothes on, you look fine, and you are speaking their language—-so have at it. But, there are those of us who cannot take the chance of making a mistake; so for those unfortunate folk—-there are all sorts of sites on the Internet where you can find free wedding speech samples to help you write something acceptable.

We have all experienced the feeling of standing up in front of a crowd and we are expected to come up with something intelligent and intelligible, but somehow—the only signal that makes it through our cerebrum intact is that of a fervent wish for lightning to strike the spot on which we are standing and take us out of our misery. So, if you need some help in preparing a little wedding ditty for the reception, just get on the Internet and browse the sites that offer all things wedding. You’ll find lots of free wedding speech samples that you can use any way you wish, and that should get you off to a good start.

There is another option for those of you who must use a template, or are just too nervous to try to wing it without a little help; you can find sites on the internet that deal with wedding paraphernalia and some of these sites have blogs or places to post helpful tidbits for others, and there you can find free wedding speech samples, or whole speeches—-that have been used by other folks. These are there for the taking and you can use them as they are, or use just parts of them to write your own speech. Lots of folks find these bits and pieces very helpful in putting together a speech.

Remember that sometimes the formality of the occasion will dictate the tone of the speeches being given, so make sure that even though you have used a site that has posted free wedding speech samples, that you have modified those samples to sound like your own words and the speech can be used in any setting—formal or not. There are all kinds of wedding help sites on the Internet that list various jokes, stories, poetry, funny ditties, speeches and simple toasts from one end of the spectrum to the other, that will help you put together a speech. Just keep yours simple, to the point, and heartfelt and you will be fine.

Keep in mind, that if you want to impress the couple you are toasting and the crowd in general, keep the timing of the speech to a minimum, mean what you are saying, and speak to the wedding couple as if you and they were the only ones in the room. You can tell a little personal story about the couple, or poke fun, but always keep it clean—vulgarity is repulsive in a situation like this; and make sure that if you have used some free wedding speech samples from an Internet site, that you have rewritten them so the speech sounds like you wrote it from scratch.

When you go to give your awaited wedding speech, just go with the flow and remember that you are surrounded by friends and family for the most part, who all know you—–so, just be you, laugh a little, tell a joke or a funny story, don’t let your nerves undo you—-you are not in front of a firing squad. All you are doing is giving your best wishes to the newly married couple in your own words, in your own inimitable way; and so what if there happens to be a couple of hundred people in the room also.
