Everyone Loves Chocolate

By Kathy Forcey | Nov 14, 2009

Chocolate wedding favors have been a great addition to many wedding celebrations. But, when did these wedding favors start to become a big deal in modern day weddings? Who started this craze of giving gifts to your guest for simply attending your wedding? The guests should want to come to a wedding because they want to help you celebrate, not to receive anything in return.

Wedding favors are gifts that the bride and groom decide on to distribute to their wedding guests as a token of gratitude for attending their important day. The possibilities are endless as to what gifts you can give to your guests.

Chocolate has always been a steady favorite to all. When choosing the right wedding favor to distribute, the bride has this chance to allow her creativity to shine through. The bride normally sets her sights on something she enjoys and knows that her guests will enjoy receiving as a memento of the special day.

The history of wedding favors dates back to the sixteenth century. The practice of giving favors were started by aristocratic Europeans who wanted to show off their wealth to all. The upper class Europeans would give away beautiful gifts that were elaborate and often expensive.

The first wedding favor that was given contained chocolates inside an elaborate jewel studded box, known by the French as a bonbonniere. Sugar was seen as a luxury to everyone in the sixteenth century. So, it was only appropriate that each gift contained some of the most expensive sugar made candy there was around. The bride and groom of the wedding were seen to be blessed and lucky, therefore by distributing gifts to all who attended their joyful day they could spread their blessings.

A great percentage of weddings still utilize the idea of passing out chocolate as a token of appreciation that started centuries ago. Continuing this custom allows old traditions to stay alive and adds a sense of connection to ancestral roots. The chocolate wedding favor was a great idea in the past and will continue to be used for many more centuries to come.

Many companies that manufacture chocolate will also take the time to personalize your particular chocolate wedding favor. The bride and groom can choose to order any special kind of chocolate for their wedding and rest assured that all their guests will enjoy their gifts.

Anytime you start planning a wedding you need to consider food. If you start having to look for a plus size mother of the bride dress you may need to check what food is going to be suitable for the wedding meal.
