Some say that there can be no true price to beauty, but these people obviously have never found themselves needing to buy something for themselves or someone close to them. High prices can make people consider jewelry which is unconventional.
Diamond rings have long been considered the ultimate standard in fashionable rings. This is especially true for certain occasions like engagements or anniversaries. Is there any merit in looking into a diamond alternative?
Cubic zirconia and moissanite are the two leading candidates when it comes to non-diamond colorless gemstones. Unfortunately, CZ rings are somewhat cheap and gaudy. These rings also have a terrible reputation that go along with them.
Moissanite rings are relatively new, and many people do not even know that they exist. Since 1998, these beauties have gained increasing amounts of popularity for their colorless radiance and shine. Some even think they look better than diamonds do!
The major downside to moissanite rings is that their centerpiece gemstones are always synthetically made. This is a real turnoff to many people. Moissanite doesn’t occur naturally, so there’s no way to get one for any price.
Gemologists have concluded that relative to diamond, moissanite shows great brilliance, fire, and luster. This means that they may look even better than the industry standard so long as they’re cut well and displayed properly.
Where moissanite rings really shine is price. Diamond rings of similar quality can cost two or three times as much as a moissanite one easily. This may mean having to settle for a smaller stone or one of lower clarity.
No matter what you ultimately decide on, both diamond and moissanite rings share in a tradition of beauty and elegance that no honest eye can deny. For tradition and symbolism, go with diamond rings. If price is more of a concern, go with moissanite.
