Almost every girl finds herself in this situation sooner or later: There is guy you’ve been friends with for months, and you have developed a huge crush on him. You get along great, and you spend a lot of time together. Sometimes you think he’s into you; his teasing seems a little flirtatious, and he texts you a lot. You are interested in finding out if you can take the relationship beyond friendship, but how do you escape Friend Zone?
There are a lot of reasons why this might be awkward. You have probably listened to some of his relationship problems, and shared some of yours. You may have told him things that you wouldn’t tell someone you had just started dating. There are some ways in which you may have accidentally made him think that you just want to be friends.
This does not have to be a bad thing. He knows you in ways that most guys don’t, and you don’t have to worry about being self-conscious or uncomfortable around him. This has the potential to be a great relationship, if you can figure out how to make it happen. Here are a few techniques for sending him signals that you are interested.
Be more flirtatious. When you tease him, make eye contact, and let your eyes linger a little longer than normal. This will make him wonder, and start to think.
Be yourself. As much as you want to make this happen, don’t do anything that is too out of character for you. You want him to like you, not some person that you invent to try and win him.
Touch him a little more. This does not mean that you should hang all over him. But try touching his arm now and then, or holding on for a few extra seconds before pulling out of a hug. You can gauge his reaction, and it may tell you what your chances are.
Come our and ask him! This can be terrifying, and it’s understandable if you don’t want to do it. But if you can bring yourself to be straightforward with him, you could save yourself a lot of time and agonizing.
Sometimes there is no way to escape Friend Zone. But sometimes, there definitely is! You will never know if you don’t try.
