With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s a great time to be planning a nice romantic dinner. Many people opt to go out for a fine dinner, but you can also create a wonderful romantic meal in the comfort of your own home. The beauty of enjoying a home-cooked Valentine’s dinners is that there are no reservations, no waiting in line, no crowds, and it’s easier on the wallet.
It’s pretty easy to set a romantic atmosphere in the house – and it’s fun to be creative with it. You can begin by setting the table, starting with an ivory linen tablecloth and matching napkins. Make sure you shine your glasses, dishes, and silverware before placing them on the table. And don’t forget a festive centerpiece, such as a vase of fresh roses surrounded by candlelight from fragrant tea lights or votive candles. Turn on some romantic tunes and you’ve got the perfect place for a Valentine’s Dinner.
What kind of dinner you prepare depends on your level of cooking experience – if you love to cook and you’re good at it, by all means go crazy. If you’re looking for something less challenging, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple and focusing on great results. You really only need a few courses for a lovely meal. Start with a favorite appetizer or soup, then an entre with some tasty side dishes, followed by a decadent dessert and some rich coffee or herbed tea.
Pick your menu based on the main entre. For instance if you’re both big on poultry, you can serve herbed chicken breasts with wild rice and a fresh baby green salad. Do you prefer a sirloin steak or baked fish? Then you might prefer to serve your sirloin with garlic potatoes and sugar snap peas or a baked flounder with lemon asparagus and herbed risotto. Whatever you choose will be fine if you choose something you both enjoy and stick to cooking what you’re good at.
Dessert doesn’t have to be homemade, especially if you don’t enjoy baking. You can pick a delicious dessert from your favorite bakery to enjoy. Choose something special and attractive, like a decadent chocolate truffle cake or some scrumptious creamy Cannoli dusted in powdered sugar. If you do enjoy baking, then by all means make your own dessert. Pick one of your “no-fail” favorites or try a new recipe from your favorite cookbook.
To be able to enjoy your dinner, it helps to get as many of the tasks out of the way long before your company arrives. If you can do some of the food preparation and table setting done the day before, even better. You deserve to enjoy this day and keep it as hassle-free as possible so you and you have a romantic, enjoyable, memorable Valentine’s Day.
