The sanctity of marriage has declined immensely over the last two decades. It used to be, till death do us part, now it is until we get tired, bored, find something else or it is not not working. How can we change these values back to what they once were? The first step is to select a mate that is truly a life partner and friend, instead of a soon to be ex.
Many believe that it is actually impossible to find that perfect spouse that you will be happy with forever. This is not true, and if you follow a few simple tips you will be able to find your perfect mate and eliminate the need for divorce later in your marriage.
The first tip is to not marry to young, as this honestly the biggest mistake many people make. It’s okay to find that person at a young age, but have fun and wait until you take the walk down the aisle with them. This allows you to mature together, and to be sure that your lives are heading in the same direction. It also allows you to establish a life for yourself, before you take on the responsible of caring for a spouse and family.
The next tip is to make an agreement with the person you are deciding to marry. Sit down and have a heart to heart about marriage and divorce, discussing the issues that can effect both of you. Make sure you are both in agreement about the crucial points such as children, finances and even sex. This help you discuss any disagreement, and negotiate a win win solution, if possible. After everything has been sorted out, write out the agreement and have both parties sign it, this way it is know that both parties agree on the terms and it can be referred to later in the marriage should a problem arise.
Don’t be afraid to change your mind. If you have doubts about the marriage then postpone it or skip it all together. Better to back out, even last minute than to marry the wrong person.
Make sure you are friends first. Being lovers is very important to a marriage, but being friends is what will sustain your marriage for the long haul. Be sure that you can talk to each other and relate as people outside of the bedroom.
Take your commitment seriously and make sure the other person does as well. It is important to make sure that you both feel that marriage should be for life and that both of you are in agreement about making it work, come what may. Life has no guarantees, but a life partner is a person who intends to grow old with you.
Lastly, choose someone that suits you, and make sure that you both know each other very well before marriage. Your life can be a wonderful experience, when you are sharing it with the right person.
