Having a Strong Marriage

By Michael Anderson | Dec 24, 2009

Strength and integrity usually go hand in hand. Strength describes a person’s emotional and physical state. Integrity can refer to a person’s character and personality. It can refer to how honest or truthful a person is.

Marriage can also reflect what these two words represent. A married couple that has a strong marriage works to keep an open and honest relationship with one another in order to obtain that strength within their marriage. Having this strength in your marriage can also mean that your marriage has integrity.

Continuing to have a strong marriage takes you remembering to respect each other and the ability to be in the other’s person’s shoes just so you can start to understand your spouse. It’s also vital that you are willing to accept the other spouse for who he/she really is and then try not to change them into what you think they should be.

They should also try to spend quality time with each other doing things that they both enjoy. This may include taking vacations, going on road-trips, and the like. These may also include simple activities like cooking together, exercising together, or walking the dog together. Quality time is important for the couple to grow and mature. It also reminds the couple of how comfortable they are around each other and how fun it is to do stuff together.

Keeping a strong marriage must involve time and effort. Respecting each other is a must. If you don’t agree with your spouse, then learn to compromise. Communicate often and openly. Keep an open mind about different things about each other. Respect the opinion of one another. Don’t keep a list of mistakes that the other is doing, but try to get over them. Don’t only look at your relationship in terms of how much the other has given. If your marriage is strong, it will stand fast through anything that comes along the way.
