Bad breath is one of those silent killers. People will seldom tell you that you have it, but the consequences of having it can be very hurtful without you realizing it. Many people have symptoms to some extent, though some are mild and some are extreme.
Some causes of bad breath are ones that we can control, and others are simply ones that we can do nothing about. Let’s focus on the ones that we can control though. Taking a few basic precautions will go a really long way.
First of all, I’d definitely recommend buying and using a tongue scraper. This cheap and effective device simply scrapes the bad breath bacteria off of your tongue, and treats bad breath at its root.
People often misunderstand the root of bad breath. It doesn’t come from the foods you eat or your teeth, but rather from your tongue. Certain germs build up there and end up smelling really bad.
It’s just as important to floss your teeth as it is to brush them. Think about what happens to foods that stay there for days without being removed. They’ll obviously form some really foul odors, and being inside your mouth, this will come through as bad breath.
Get rid of this food proactively. Don’t wait until getting to the dentist before you’re able to do this. Floss at least a few times per week and I can guarantee that you’ll realize how much better off you are if you floss. It requires discipline, but it definitely pays off.
Lastly, I’d recommend drinking a lot of water throughout the day. Staying hydrated activates your salivary glands, which are the best natural killer of bad breath.
Taking the measures mentioned above will have a huge impact on your overall well being. Your relationships and social strength will both improve.
