Single Parent Dating – How to Make the Best Use of Your Time

By Kim Allissa | Nov 22, 2009

Being a single parent comes with so many added responsibilities. If you are a single parent, you know exactly what I am talking about…working at a job, household chores, children’s homework and their extra-curricular activities.

Sometimes the thought of dating feels like it is just one extra thing to add to your already-busy life. However, did you know that there are ways of participating in single parent dating that does not have to use up a lot of your time?

Fortunately, single parent dating does not have to take up a lot of your time, if you follow some of the tips I am going to provide to you below.

* Date people based on the recommendations of friends and family who know both you and the person that they want you to meet. Your friends and family are familiar with your likes and dislikes, and hopefully that of the person they are setting you up with. This would hopefully eliminate the possibility of meeting someone who you totally have nothing in common with.

* Go on short dates. Meet a date for coffee rather than a dinner and a movie. Then if the coffee date does not go as well as you planned, then you will not have wasted a whole evening with someone you knew was not right for you right from the start. If, however, you enjoy the date, then you can plan for a longer date the next time you get together.

* Speed date to meet new people. I know that this can seem kind of silly, but it does allow you to meet a lot of new people very quickly. You can then pick and choose from the people you have just met, based on the information they have provided you during your brief encounter.

* Before going out on a date, take some time to think about who you want to date and the kind of person you do not want to date. Thinking this through before you actually meet someone can help keep you more objective when you do finally go on the date, and will help you decide if you even want to see this person a second time.

* Try dating on the internet. There are some very good dating websites that are for single parents dating. There you can find other single parents who are looking to meet single parents too. Online dating saves you a lot of time, as you do not have to go out to meet every new person. As a result, you can date from your home after your kids go to bed. You can review the profiles of other members of that dating site and pick who you want to get to know more. At first, your dating will take place through the internet and by speaking to one another over the telephone. If you later decide that you seem compatible, then you can always meet in person at that point.

In summary, there are ways to use your time effectively if you are a single parent dating. Using some of the ideas I have discussed above will help you save time when dating.
