It is pretty easy to find a website offering cheap hotel rates, but how do you really save? Most of these websites are just stating they have cheap hotel rates, but really they could be offering the rates at the exact same rate, or even higher than the hotel itself. I am going to tell you what you need to look out for so that you can actually save money on your next hotel stay.
When you land on a website the first thing you want to make sure that they do is match lower prices. The reason you want them to match lower prices, is first in case you find one, and second this means that the website is setting their own prices, which means they are offering discounted hotel rates.
Next make sure that you are paying for the room up front. This is not a cheap hotel rate if you are paying when you get to the hotel. The websites offering true cheap hotel rates will require you to prepay because that is what they have done. If you are paying when you arrive then you have booked a hotel through the hotel, regardless of where you saw the rate. These rates are not discounted and you either need to find another website or book directly through the hotel.
The number one mistake people make when trying to compare prices is to look at the nightly rate. The nightly rate is not what you want to compare. There are a lot of different taxes and fees that you pay with a hotel room. The best way to find out is to go through like you are going to book and compare the final totals to eachother.
Now you know exactly what to look for when you are searching for cheap hotel rates. Remember that if you book early you will save more money, and you can always request a price match if for some reason the price drops.
